Emerging Native elite runners. Runners must meet the qualifications set forth by the bylaws and are selected by the Board of Directors on the basis of a complete application and a personal interview. Runners are subject to criminal background check, fingerprint clearances, and possible drug testing.
Qualifications.
- Proof of U.S. citizenship
- Proof of at least one-quarter Native blood (tribal affiliations from the Four Corner's Region of NM,AZ,CO, &UT)
- Have a high school diploma or GED
- Exhausted or forfeited athletic college eligibility
- Must demonstrate financial need (details upon request)
- Must have consistent running times in USATF certified races which are competitive with times of other emerging USA elite runners (see criteria for inclusion)
- Must be in good standing with USATF and other NGBs
- Must meet the established minimum performance standards of emerging elite criteria for inclusion
- Must demonstrate national and international potential as an emerging elite runner
- Must compete for the U.S.
- Must be fully committed and able to train for the U.S. Team Olympic™ Trials and Olympic™ Games
Annual renewal. Sponsored Native elite runners must apply for an annual renewal by demonstrating consistent progress towards becoming an Olympic competitor and must submit updated personal and athletic biographies.
Role of sponsored runner. Runner must adhere to the Athlete Code of Conduct as set by the Board of Directors, submit a training and competition schedule(6 months out)and budget of expenses, provide documented community service, and report performance/race results to the Board of Directors every quarter. Failure to comply with these expectations may jeopardize current and future sponsorship by Nideiltihi Native Elite Runners, Inc.
Termination. Sponsored runners may be terminated by the majority vote of the Board of Directors if runners display behavior unbecoming of an Olympic ™ hopeful or of a positive role model and fail to demonstrate continual competitive progress in USA Track & Field certified and sanctioned running events. NNER reserves the right to terminate athlete support at any time.
Appeals. Decisions by the Board of Directors for the initial acceptance, continuation, or termination of a sponsored elite runner are final and are not subjected to appeal. However, a runner may have the opportunity to present his/her individual case to the Board of Directors before final decisions are motioned by the Board of Directors.
